Procrastination is one of the biggest problems for most people. It’s not about being lazy or lacking willpower, it’s more about having too many options and making decisions that are rational but end up getting in the way of what you need to do. In this post I will be sharing my personal system to stop procrastinating when you create things, build a business or work on creative projects.
What is procrastination?
Procrastination is the act of delaying or postponing a task that you need to do. People procrastinate when they are confronted with tasks they have to do (or don’t want to do). They will then delay or put off doing the task until later.
Why do we procrastinate and how can we overcome it?
Most people are procrastinators, and they don’t understand why. They think that they just don’t want to do something, but if they knew why they did it, then maybe they would be able to stop doing it.
The reason why we procrastinate is that we are trying to avoid pain. We want to avoid doing the things that make us unhappy, so we postpone the inevitable. Instead of taking action on our goals, we sit and dwell about how bad the outcome will be if we actually follow through.
How to stop procrastinating when you are a creator and get things done!
If you are a creator, you probably know this feeling: You have big plans and ideas, but they all start to fade away as you get distracted by the internet and other things. How do you stop procrastinating and get back on track?
Schedule time for individual pieces of work
You need to schedule your time to actually get things done. If you don’t, there will always be something more interesting to do than the task at hand.
Make a checklist for the tasks required
Prioritize each task, making sure not to leave any out. Prioritizing your tasks is one of the most important components of time management
Tips to stay focused on your work and getting things done!
Every day you face situations that test your ability to focus on your work. You are distracted by the latest news or an urgent request from a colleague. Before you know it, the time is up and you didn’t get the most important tasks done.
Here are 3 tips on how to cope with distractions and stay motivated to complete your work.
1. Plan your day in advance
When you plan your day in advance, you know what to expect and what you have to do. This way, it is easier for you to stay focused on the task at hand. When you know what to expect, you are more likely to stay focused on the task at hand.
2. Have a list of things to do
Make a list of things that you need to do and prioritize them. This way, you will know what to do first and what to do next. When you have a list of things that need to be done, it is easier for you to stay focused on the task at hand.
3. Don’t multi-task
Multi-tasking is a myth. It is not possible to do two things at once and do them well. When you try to multi-task, you end up doing both tasks poorly. If you want to be productive, focus one task at a time
Author Tim Ferriss describes the problem with multi-tasking like this: “Multitasking reduces your productivity to that of a single-tasker who only performs his or her single task half as well as it could be done.” -Tim Ferriss, The 4-Hour Workweek
To Conclude :
Getting things done is a great way to make sure you have the right mindset when it comes to completing your goals. If you follow the steps above it should help you to get things done.
